<Command>
<Name>head install &lt; install mode &gt; [ [ &lt; thickness &gt; ] ]</Name>
<Description>
<DescriptionText><text>
The head install command should be used when installing a head onto the
carriage mount. It is important that a plate is loaded before issuing this
command with the focus beam hitting the surface of the plate. Use the same
method as before. Be sure that the media thickness and carrier thickness
parameters are correct since the head determines the lens position to hold the
lens at based on the sum of these. For a total thickness of 305 um the lens
will be very near the center of its travel. The head is switched internally to
fmode 1 during head install but note that the ususal fmode 1 lens position
parameter "lpos" has no effect during head install. Note that the maximum setup
range is +/- 200 um from center but the head works best if lens is near the
middle. In some cases it may be desirable to set the lens position independent
of the media thickness. In this case use the lower level "head stream on"
command instead after switching the focus to fmode 1 and setting the "lpos" to
zero.

and the focus sum, difference, and error values will scroll
on the diagnostic terminal every second. The values will change as the head is
moved forward and backward on the mount.
